SCIENCE AND COLLECTIONS
The 19th century is one of the most significant periods in the history of science.
It was the period where the zoology gallery opened to the public, who discovered the animals presented according to the classification of Georges Cuvier. Naturalists collected these animals and accumulated observations and drawings that are now displayed in the drawing cabinet.
Scientists from the region took part in major scientific exhibitions, which produced discoveries that would turn knowledge upside down and produce new scientific disciplines, such as oceanography and biogeography that the Museum highlights in three well-lit areas, with a fantastic collection of tropical shells in particular.
